Hall and Oates, Icehouse, Husky and Lanie Lane pleased crowd for A Day On The Green 2012

14 February 2012

“Imagine that you’re back at your Year 6 disco,” said Iva Davies, who fronts Icehouse, on Saturday.

His quote easily summed up the whole concert experience at Peter Lehmann’s winery.

Another popular ‘a day on the green’ concert inspired thousands of maturing music fans to get down and boogie.

The storm clouds gathered as the Barossa geared up for what promised to be a 1980s pop showdown with Aussie legends Icehouse sharing the bill with the dynamic American hit-making duo of Daryl Hall and John Oates.

The event was kicked off well by lively singer/songwriter Lanie Lane, who was celebrating her birthday while sharing her unique blend of blues and rockabilly.

The other support act ‘Husky’ lived up to their name with full beards and checked shirts matching their eclectic root-style performance.

It was clear from the minute Icehouse hit the stage a lot of the audience had come to see them perform.

The crowd was immediately on its feet enjoying one hit song after another from the dance anthems like ‘Electric Blue’ to the true blue Oz classic ‘Great Southern Land’.

At one point the white-haired pop icon invited to the microphone contemporary Australian singer/songwriter Michael Paynter who sang lead vocals to several Icehouse songs before returning to playing keyboard.

The energy of the band was complemented by a spectacular high-tech backdrop, featuring flashing lights and video footage.

Hall and Oates had a hard act to follow but proved themselves up for the challenge.

Supported by a large backing band and an equally large collection of chart-toppers from the 70s and 80s, this talented double act showed why they are still the biggest selling pop duo of all time.

Against all medical advice many middle-aged concert goers were on their feet again transported back in time by the music.
