Peter Lehmann’s ‘Margaret’ Goes All the Way at 2011 Royal Sydney Wine Show!

18 February 2011

With the announcement of results at the 2011 Royal Agricultural Society of NSW Wine Show on Thursday 17th February, Peter Lehmann Wines 2005 ‘Margaret’ Barossa Semillon swept all other wines before it by winning three trophies, including the Macquarie Group Perpetual Trophy for Best Wine of Show.

Andrew Wigan, PLW Chief Winemaker, was at the Presentation Dinner in Sydney when the awards were announced, and was thrilled to accept all three awards on behalf of his winemaking team.

“This is a great result for Semillon, Peter Lehmann and the Barossa. Semillon has been growing in our valley for 150 years or so and many of our grower’s plantings are quite ancient. It makes delicious, refreshing young wines as well as complex bottle aged examples such as the 2005 Margaret that is released as a 5 year old and represents our Best Semillon of vintage.

This is a testament to our loyal Barossa growers and the talented Peter Lehmann team, and rest assured we will celebrate long into the night.” said Andrew.

The 2005 ‘Margaret’ Barossa Semillon won the following three trophies:

RAS of NSW Annual Prize for Best Semillon - ‘Best Varietal Wine, Semillon’

The Albert Chan Memorial Prize - ‘Best White Wine of Show’

Macquarie Group Perpetual Trophy - ‘Best Wine of Show’

Released as a 5 year old wine, the ‘Margaret’ Semillon’s accolades have been extremely impressive with 21 trophies, 52 gold medals, 3 Blue-Gold medals and 73 silver or bronze medals since the 2000 vintage.

2005 Peter Lehmann Margaret Semillon is currently available through selected fine wine retailers and restaurants, as well as Cellar Door and online.
