AUSTRALIA

Australian wine writer Winsor Dobbin has rated our 2009 Clancy’s Red his pick for a VALUE RED, with this review –

“Peter Lehmann is something of a legend in the Barossa Valley, where he founded his own winery to save several local grape growers from going broke when they couldn’t sell their fruit.  He makes a lot of expensive wines but also helps out the strugglers with some of the best-value bottles around.  This is a blend of shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and merlot that’s soft and smooth, won’t do too much damage to the wallet and would be great with a barbecue, or with some soul sounds.”

The Winefront’s Campbell Mattinson reviewed some of our renowned reds, also noting our new look labels!

Open the October issue of Wine & Spirits magazine and you’ll find our 2005 Eight Songs Shiraz has been named among the year’s best Australian Shiraz:

Peter Lehmann Wines 2005 Barossa Eight Songs Shiraz - Josh Greene, Wine & Spirits, 91 Points/Exceptional

“This Shiraz has begun to soften with age, its mineral tannins revealing layers of herbs, sleek plum and strawberry fruit.  The flavors are saturated without being sweet, ready to decant for roast leg of lamb.”  October, 2011

Turn a few more pages and you’ll find the 2009 Layers Red listed as a Best Buy:

Peter Lehmann Wines 2009 Layers Red - Joshua Greene, Wine & Spirits, 89 Points/Best Buy

“Shiraz makes up 41 percent of this blend, accompanied by Mourvèdre, Tempranillo, Grenache and a small portion of Carignane.  It’s rustic with scents of thyme and saddle leather, the mineral tannins guiding sweet strawberry fruit through the finish.  For slow-cooked beef ribs.”  October, 2011

And in Steven Tanzer’s International Wine Cellars Josh Raynolds found much to be impressed with at Peter Lehmann:

Peter Lehmann Wines 2006 Stonewell Shiraz - Josh Raynolds, Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar, 92 Points/Outstanding

“Blackberry, cherry-vanilla, oak spices and licorice on the highly fragrant nose.  Deep, sweet and creamy but with good juicy character and spicy lift to its dark fruit compote, vanilla and licorice flavors.  Really stains the palate.  Finishes long, with velvety tannins and very good clarity, the licorice and spice notes repeating.”  Sept/Oct 2011

Peter Lehmann Wines 2006 Mentor - Josh Raynolds, Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar, 90 Points/Outstanding

“Deep ruby.  Cassis, cherry-vanilla and pipe tobacco on the pungent nose.  Ripe, fleshy and expansive, with very good depth and sweetness to its dark fruit flavors.  Dusty tannins add shape to the long, smoky finish, which features vanillin oak and spice qualities.” Sept/Oct 2011

…And it seems our ever-popular Layers Range has done it again, collecting a silver medal for both the 2010 Layers White and the 2009 Layer Red at the Sommelier Challenge in San Diego.

Fiona Reddan, writer for the Irish Times, wrote an article tackling the issue of discounted wines versus good quality, low cost wine.

To help her distinguish such value for money drops, she enlisted the help of Maureen O’Hara, owner of Premier Wine Training, who stated that Peter Lehmann’s range of wines “always over-deliver at standard retail prices…” - Fiona also suggests to forget about the half-price stock and try the Peter Lehmann Range for value.
